Super Kids To The Rescue!

Holiday News Share
We are happy to hear of all the festive and familial fun that happened over the past two weeks.

Meteorologist Malcolm
This week Malcolm broadcasts the daily forecast.

Super Hero Comics
This week we launched our new writing unit:
COMICS and GRAPHIC NOVELS.
Students are designing their Super Hero characters by drawing and writing about their character's INTERNAL and EXTERNAL traits.

 The MATTER of Science
This week students explore density and the transformation of matter between states.

Park Playtime
Laurel Creekians play and practice their photography skills at Tuesday's Park recess.

Geometric Builders
Students construct triangles and quadrilaterals.  Students test the strength of shapes by squeezing them.  Hmmm... now we understand why bridges have so many triangles!

Thinking Tracks
Students learn to track and record their thinking while reading.

2014
Second graders count by tens using bead chains to 2014, giving contexts to our new year.  Second graders shared their work with the first graders by walking them along the chain.

Reader's Theater
Laurel Creekians are learning to read with fluency and expression through this months Reader's Theater unit.  We look forward to sharing our learnings with you on January 31st.

When Our World Was Young
This month we are studying creation stories as told by many cultures and indigenous peoples.

Fabulous Friday
Creekians teach their families how they read thoughtfully by using our "thinking tracks" key.

Have a great time HANGING out this weekend!
Love,
Nancy, Cate
(and the children of Laurel Creek)
