Engaging a Changing World

Book Buddy Bonding
Laurel and Strawberry Creekians enjoy reading together.

All School Assembly
Middle school students engaged us through skits on inclusion and exclusion, sparking conversations about how to keep one-another from feeling left out.

Editing
Students practice self-editing and peer-editing by checking their capitals, and lower-case letter formation.  Students check their high-frequency spelling with their personal word wall.

Adding the finishing touches

Math Story Problems
"I had a magic spoon.  It always held 7 veggies on it at a time, no less, no more.  Every time I scooped up veggies with my magic spoon there were SOME peas on it, and SOME carrots on it.  How many peas and carrots COULD I have on my magic spoon?  How many combinations of peas and carrots can you come up with?"
First graders in Laurel Creek worked with the first graders of Blackberry and created a math book full of addition and subtraction story problems to solve in class or at home.  Ask your kiddos to see!
Up to the challenge!  Students try to find all the combinations of 25 Veggie in All.

Science
Students learn how sunlight changes throughout the year due to the Earth's tilt.
Nancy uses jam on bread to demonstrate how a specific amount of sunlight can be spread or consolidated over the Earth's surface depending on the season.

Autumn Observations
Students share what they saw, heard, smelled and felt while walking through Fall with their families.

Engaging a Changing World through Current Events
Once every week or two, Laurel Creekians look through the news and read an article with a family member.  Students then report (retell) on their news to the class.  This is a great way for students to engage a changing world everyday.

 Cultural Studies
Creekians learn about land and water forms. This week we focused on:
What is a(n): ISLAND, PENINSULA, GULF and LAKE?
Have fun exploring the world over this four day weekend!

See you on Tuesday.
Cate and Nancy
